certificate literacy
a certificate of analysis is a laboratory's record of what it measured in one specific batch of material. it names the laboratory, identifies the batch, states the methods used, and reports what those methods found. it is a document about a sample, on a date, by an organisation willing to put its name to it.
that last part is what makes it worth anything, and it is also why forgeries exist. a certificate is the easiest part of a supply chain to fake, because it is a picture. a layout can be copied in an afternoon. the chemistry underneath it cannot.
the useful habit is not memorising a layout. layouts change, and a forger can copy any of them. it is asking what a real report has to be able to show you, and then checking whether this one can. does the batch identifier on the document match the one on the container in front of you. is the laboratory named consistently from the header to the signature. is there a way to confirm the report exists at the laboratory that supposedly issued it. does the figure being claimed agree with the measurement it was supposedly read from.
none of that requires a chemistry background. it requires reading a document as a document, and noticing when it cannot answer a question it ought to be able to answer. you do not need to catch every problem. you need to catch one, and then verify it at the source.
